LATEX PAINT

Latex paint is not considered a 'hazardous material', but it is accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and electronics collections for Leelanau HOUSEHOLDS ONLY (No more than 10, 1-gallon cans per vehicle at each Leelanau County collection).

However, there are ways to get rid of the latex paint and not have to bring it to a collection.  Citizens are encouraged to use one of the methods listed on our flyer, which also eliminates non-hazardous materials from taking up space in the HHW collections.

DRUGS

Drugs (Controlled substance medications, medication samples, vitamins, etc) are NOT to be put down the drain, on the ground, or in the garbage.

There is a drug disposal drop-off box located in the lobby of the Leelanau County Sheriff's office - for PILLS only.  The box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Bring in your unused and unwanted drugs and place in the secure box.  ANONYMOUS.  NO COST.  NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

Click here for the flyer with information on proper disposal of latex paints, as well as proper disposal of drugs, including liquids like syrups.

Items that need to be disposed of at a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronics collection require an appointment.  Call 256-9812 or email planning@co.leelanau.mi.us to get an appointment slot.  Appointments are LIMITED for all collections.
