Currently, the supply of O negative blood is at very low levels, less than a half day supply of donations are currently available.

O-blood, the universal type, is used to save infants, mothers that experience complications during birth, and victims of trauma when there is no time to determine blood type. It’s this blood that’s on the helicopters that pick up urgent-care victims and transports them to the hospital.
