We take the safety, health, and wellbeing of our employees, customers, and the community seriously. Therefore, in the wake of the COVID-19 virus, the county building is not open to the public beginning Wednesday, November 18, 2020 through December 8, 2020. If you are coming to our office, please go to the second floor of the building and you can enter our lobby, or wait in the hall. We are only allowed to have limited people within our office. We suggest you call and make an appointment so we are able to best serve you. The Prosecuting Attorney is an elected official with a four-year term of office, as provided by the Michigan Constitution. Elections occur at the time of the Presidential election, on the partisan ballot. The elected county Prosecuting Attorney is independent of the Michigan Attorney General.
The primary law enforcement agencies include the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Tribal Police, and the Michigan State Police.
