The Leelanau County Jail is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by 12 State Certified Corrections Officers, and 4 Sergeants. All Corrections Officers are certified through the Michigan Sheriff's Coordinating and Training Counsel, a division of the Michigan Sheriff's Association. All Corrections Officers must maintain a minimum of 20 hours continued, annual training to maintain their certification.

Corrections Officers are responsible for the day to day operations of the jail, as well as court security,  inmate transports to and from other jurisdictions and State Prisons around the State, and a host of other collateral duties. Some members of the Corrections Division are certified instructors in areas such as firearms, TASER®, CPR/AED/First Aid, defensive tactics, OC/Pepper Spray, and fire training, just to name a few. We have one Corrections Officer who is currently a member of the area Mutual Aid Dive Team, and one who is a trained and certified Hostage Negotiator.

The jail staff strives to maintain a safe, secure and sanitary facility, as well as insure all inmates are treated fairly and in conformance with State and Federal laws and the Constitution of the United States.
