DRUG DISPOSAL DROP-OFF BOX AT THELEELANAU COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE
Date: Wednesday, March 13, 2013
Beginning Monday, March 18, 2013, a drug disposal drop-off box will be located in the lobby area of the Leelanau County Sheriffs Office. The drop-off box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and there is no cost to participate, simply bring in and place your unused and unwanted prescription drugs in the secure box.
This drug drop-off program is an anonymous, no questions-asked initiative that helps prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.
The following items CAN be turned into the drug disposal drop-off box:
- Controlled Substance Medications (Scheduled Drugs)
- Non-Controlled Substance (Rx) medications
- Over-the-counter (OTC) medications
- Medication samples
- Vitamins
- Syrups, Ointments, Creams, and Lotions
- Inhalers
The following items CANNOT be turned into the drug disposal drop-off box:
- Any sharps such as: Needles, Syringes, or Lancets
- Any Mercury or Cadmium Products such as: Thermometers & Batteries
- Disposal medical waste items such as: IV bags, Used Bandages, Gowns, or Bio-Hazardous items
- Aerosol cans
- Chemicals or Disinfectants such as : Hydrogen peroxide
- Personal care products (non-medicated shampoo, etc)
